SMMPA participates in the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) wholesale energy market as both a buyer and seller of capacity and energy.  The Agency offers all of its generating resources for sale into the market, and purchases the energy needed to serve the electrical load of its members from the market.

MISO is a Regional Transmission Organization committed to the safe, cost-effective delivery of electric power across all or parts of 15 U.S. states and the Canadian province of Manitoba. Additionally, MISO assures consumers of unbiased regional grid management and open access to the transmission facilities under MISO’s functional supervision.
