Joint-action electric utility seeks an individual to operate and manage the operations of the Agency’s electric power system consistent with regulatory standards and Agency guidelines.
Salary: Starting salary ($83,000 – $100,000) based on education and experience.

Qualifications:
Two year degree in electronics or electrical power engineering technology, or equivalent utility experience.
North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) certification. If not certified, candidate will be required to obtain NERC certification within 6 months of hire date.
Ability to learn and understand NERC standards, Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) policies and procedures, and other regional transmission operator business practices.
Working knowledge of interconnected power system operations, generation and transmission systems, power pooling, computer systems, SCADA equipment, and metering and relaying equipment beneficial.
Able to work a rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Power Plant Technician
Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency, a joint-action electric utility, is seeking a skilled Power Plant Technician to operate and maintain an Agency-owned generation facility, located in Owatonna, Minnesota. This position requires adherence to all applicable state, federal, and industry regulations.
Salary: Starting at $65,000 – $80,000, based on education and experience.

Qualifications:
Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience with mechanical systems, including maintenance and repair of diesel engines, combustion turbines, or electric generators.
Proficiency in fabrication techniques, including welding, machining, and assembly of mechanical components.
Knowledge of electronic instrumentation and control systems (e.g., PLCs and SCADA) is preferred.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in a timely manner.
Capability to report to the generation facility within 30 minutes of contact.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Valid driver’s license required.
Successful completion of a criminal/consumer background check and alcohol/drug screening is mandatory.
