Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA) is seeking an Energy Services Representative to assist and support Member utilities in delivering innovative Demand-Side Management (DSM) programs. If you’re passionate about sustainability and building strong relationships, this role is for you.
In this role, you will:
Support 17 Member utilities with delivery, implementation, and marketing of DSM programs.
Serve as the primary point of contact for members and customers, fostering long-term relationships. On average, two to three days per week will require travel to and from Member communities.
Conduct research and assist in developing innovative DSM programs and services.
Advocate for Agency and Member plans, programs, and policies at meetings and events.
Identify risks and opportunities, developing strategies to turn them into advantages.
Manage projects and complete various tasks as needed by Agency management.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, marketing, economics, business, public administration, or related technical field; and (4) years of progressively responsible experience in energy-efficiency programs and technology with a balance of technical, program management, customer service and marketing skills. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and related certifications to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may also be considered.
Solid background in high-efficiency commercial/industrial technologies (i.e., motors, lighting, HVACR, etc.) required.
Certified Business Energy Professional (BEP) certification preferred.
A valid driver’s license and insured personal vehicle are required of this role.

Project Manager - Transmission

Starting salary: $96,549 – $120,686 based on qualifications

Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA) is seeking a Project Manager of Transmission to drive the planning, execution, and delivery of high-impact transmission and substation initiatives. If you’re a strategic thinker with a passion for energy systems and a knack for getting things done, we want to hear from you.
In this role, you will:
Lead projects from concept to closeout—on time, on budget, and on point.
Oversee permitting, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and stakeholder communication.
Manage ongoing maintenance to ensure asset reliability and regulatory compliance.
Coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and support emergency response efforts.
Own contract management, construction oversight, and continuous improvement of project practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business or related technical field; and (3) years of progressively responsible experience in construction, utility, or infrastructure projects with strong background in stakeholder communication, including internal teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and related certifications to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may also be considered.
Preferred candidates will have a background in transmission and substation planning, design, and construction; hold a PMP certification or demonstrate solid Project Management expertise; and possess working knowledge of electric utility operations, including NERC standards and practices of MISO or similar regional transmission operators.
