SMMPA is proud to produce reliable, affordable, and efficient electricity, while remaining sensitive to the environment.

Recent investments in natural-gas fired generation and renewables have significantly diversified the Agency’s resources, and has shifted the reliance on one fuel source. In fact, SMMPA has added 63 MW of natural-gas fired generation to its fleet with the addition of its 25 MW plant in Fairmont in 2014 and the 38 MW Owatonna plant in late 2017.

Furthermore, the Agency's renewable generation portfolio includes more than 209 MW of Wind, 5 MW of Solar and 3.7 MW of Biomass.
