— Established in 1902 —
fairmont public Utilities has been serving the electric, sanitary
and water needs of the community for nearly 120 years.
Local Values, Local Control
Fairmont Public Utilities is governed by a five-person commission comprised of Fairmont residents who are customers of the utility, and who are familiar with its operations and services.
Decisions about the operation and rates of Fairmont Public Utilities are made by community members, at open, public meetings. Because all decisions are made locally, the utility is able to respond to the community’s needs, build on its strengths, and advance its values.
And whether a customer has a compliment or complaint, he or she can discuss the issue locally and be assured that their voice will be heard.
Keeping Dollars in Fairmont
Fairmont Public Utilities is an engine for economic development — be it through local job creation or utility incentives to spur growth. All utility employees live and work in the surrounding area, and they take pride supporting local business and keeping dollars in the community.
Local Response, Local reliability
With nearly 150 miles of overhead and underground transmission line, 3 substations and 37 MW of generation capacity available from the SMMPA-owned Fairmont Energy Station, Fairmont residents benefit from having the resources needed to respond quickly to outages and other emergency situations.
